Wheat is believed to have originated in the Fertile Crescent, a region in the Middle East that extends from Jordan, Palestine, and Lebanon to Syria, Turkey, Iraq, and Iran.
The germ is the portion of the wheat berry that sprouts and eventually grows into a new plant. In the process of turning wheat into white flour, the germ and bran are typically taken out. That being said, the germ is the healthiest part of the wheat berry. It only makes up around 3% of the wheat berry, yet despite its modest size, it is a nutritious powerhouse.
