Mustard seeds belong to the Brassica family. In many different cuisines, it is used whole, ground, or as a condiment. It has a strong, slightly bitter flavour. The two main varieties are brown, or Indian, mustard (Brassica juncea), which is originating in the Himalayas, and white, or yellow, mustard (Sinapis alba), a plant native to the Mediterranean region.
