Kalonji, commonly known as nigella or black cumin, is made from the Nigella sativa plant. It is used in North Africa, Middle Eastern, and Indian cuisines and has a flavour that is somewhat bitter like onions. It is native to the countries in western Asia (Iraq, Cyprus, Turkey, Iran), and eastern Europe (Bulgaria and Romania).
